Introduction

Middlehope is a little known Weardale locality on the world stage, but produced some of the finest green fluorites ever to come from the Dale. It had a brief existence in the early 1800's and is described in a paper by Edward Daniel Clarke, Professor of Mineralogy at Cambridge University.

The specimens are all very unique in that they are on a sandy white matrix - with beautiful emerald green crystals. They are unique also, in that the crystals are chamfered on the edges, and striated on the faces.

There seems to be confusion amongst dealers and collectors about where green fluorite specimens come from - one thing is for sure - these specimens eclipse anything that came from Rogerley or Heights - they have a presence, an appearance, that is timeless. They are rare. True mineral masterieces.

There are currently two fine specimens in the Pete Ward collection.
